In 2008 Zane Berzina was appointed to take up Professorship for Conceptual Development of Materials and Surfaces at the Textile and Surface Design Department, the Art College Berlin-Weiβensee, Germany. Since 2009 she is Head of the Textile and Surface Design Department there. She is also an Associate of the Goldsmiths Digital Studios, Goldsmiths, University of London and she acts as an external supervisor, examiner or assessor. She gives guest lectures, masterclasses and consultations at various higher education institutions and design companies internationally. Zane Berzina is a member of the editorial board for The Nordic Textile Journal published by Center for Textile Research CTF.
Her academic teaching career started in 2000 when Zane Berzina was teaching Textile Practice on interdisciplinary study projects at the Institute for Experimental Fashion and Textile Design, University of the Arts Berlin, Germany until 2004. From 2001 - 2004 she also contributed to the European MA in Fashion and Textile Design Programme (Southampton University, Winchester School of Arts, UK) in a Module Co-ordinator capacity and later as Leader of the MA Course at the Berlin University of the Arts.
From 2004 - 2006 Zane Berzina lectured at Goldsmiths, University of London, teaching on BA Textiles Course at the Visual Arts Department.
From 2007 - 2009 she was awarded an AHRC Research Fellow post and worked as the Main Researcher on the 'E-Static Shadows' project at the Constance Howard Resource and Research Centre in Textiles, Goldsmiths, University of London.
In 2009 Zane Berzina was 'Eurolecture - European Programme for Innovative Academic Teaching' award holder by the Alfred Toepfer Stiftung on the project e-MOTION at the University of the Arts Berlin (UdK), Institute for Experimental Fashion and Textile Design, Germany.
